I've just discovered a wonderful piece in the Times from 1846. An ancestor who I've been trying to trace for ages had got into trouble with the Police and her trial was reported. Recently widowed, she was applying for financial aid and claimed that her husband's behaviour had brought her to this state. There's an intriguing quote. It reads: 'It would be unfair to state the allegations on either side at present, but enough transpired to show that they did not live happily together.' I'd love to know what these allegations were, so I need to get hold of a transcript of the court proceedings. That's where I need help. Where would I get details of a case heard at Bow Street in 1846? |

I think this would be Bow Street Magistrates' Court, so I think you would need the Quarter sessions records which are in the records office - not sure if this would be the London metropolitan archives or the City of London archives. nell |

Thanks Nell, but it seems the records do not go back as far as 1846. I'll phone up the Metropolitan Archives tomorrow and see if they can help. |
