If you go on to the image in 1901, then go back to image 4 , Sudbury is written again in the same handwriting but its got something like 'Bucks' in front of it...have a look.

Low Place, Sudbury? Well, it may just have been a local name for a small hamlet. Why dont you email the archives office in Sundbury and see if they know?

Sorry all !! Just checked my notes and realised that George in 1891 has Wadlington as place of birth and John has Sudbury but this still gives no clue as to Low place, tried googling and mapping again but still no joy.

I've just had a quick look at the image, and the enumerator's writing does seem quite clear. Then I looked on Genuki, and neither of the place names are listed. I'm sorry that I'm not much use today as I've had a migraine and my eyes are still a bit funny, but I'll try and look again a bit later and see if inspiration strikes! I did wonder if the 'Saltbury' could be Salisbury because he seems to have made a bit of a blob on that word, but then I would have thought he'd put Wiltshire. Mandy

Ok firstly maybe another pair of eyes needed on 1901 UK census please. Search George Clifton b1882 wadlowton oxfordshire living in Luton. Family consists of Charles age 67, Jane age 65, John 23, George 19 and grandson Johney. I have googled and old mapped for Wadlowton and also Johns place of birth, Lowplace saltbury???? with absolutely no luck at all. Has anybody got any ideas where these two places are please? I am having real problems with this family as they were said to be of gypsy stock. I have yet to find births but talking to Dad today he remembers his Mum telling him that Charles was 'had up' for not registering the children because he did not believe in it. So until I can dechipher the said places of birth I have no idea what to do next. Thankyou in anticipation of any ideas that may occur to people.
