Have you got them on the census? If you're lucky they still lived in the same parish they were married in. If that wasn't the case, look at which parish the woman lived in before she married on the census. Sometimes the couple wed in the bride's parish even if they then went to live in the groom's.

iv rung the local reg officeand i need a parishas the district of newton abbot is vast apparently ! looks like ill justhave togo via the gro and wait !!

why don;t you order it from the local RO - they can be much quicker, where were they married?

thanks to you all... iv foundout the names and ref of their marriage, buti was trying to find out his fathers name from his marr cert soi can trace the tree backsome more. ihave no photos,,, ididnt know they existed until yesterday. ! im just too impatient to wait for the postman!!..and im a long wayaway from the parishthey reg in and i need to know exactly which parish as i just have a district.. so im going round in circles cccccc

Hi Jackie If your grandparents were married in a parish church, those records ARE the best to look at: they will have your grandparents actual signatures for one thing. However, they may still be in the parish church. Do you have a wedding photo with a church in the background? Anything that might give you a clue? It is quite possible that they married in a chapel or even a registry office. If you only have the name of a town, or a registration district, it will be cheaper to order a certificate from the GRO or the relevant local registrar.

Hi Jackie Parish records will give you names but to get a copy of a marriage certifificate you will need to contact the G.R.O. If you can give me your grandparents names and a date and place I will find the Ref number for you and you can order one on line. Eileen

You don't necessarily need parish records. Do you know the names of both grandparents? You should be able to find the marriage ref in the GRO indexes which will enable you to send for the certificate. Sam x

can anyone help.... im trying to find outthe parish in which my grandparents were married in so i can get a copy of my grandfathers marriage certificate so i can find out his fathers name........im stuck. thanks
