Hi I`ve had the same trouble a few times, I`m not sure what the problem is but I find that if I turn off my computer for a short while it works fine when I switch on again. must be some Gremlins at work ! ! ! ! Eileen |

I changed the settings from 'ActiveX Control' to 'Direct Download' and the images came straight up. I put the slowness down to extra traffic with the 1851 census |

Try changing to Java Script to view documents. had the same trouble with my PC. Read in the FAQ about it. Have no problems now. Go in to My Details and change your viewing choice. Has a drop down menu. Hope this helps. Anne |

This could be caused by running out of available RAM. Often your ram is not released by a program. If you go to www downloads com do a search for rambooster. Free program, you can install on your computer and it will automatically free up ram for you when available gets below a certain limit. I run on mine and rarely 'freeze' up. Other thing could be spyware. You can also download free spyware busters (tons to choose from). I run spybot-Search & Destroy. |

Tte same thing happened to me a while ago ,and each time I managed to get back on to the site my credits were going down and I hadn't even seen anything ,so I sent them an e-mail about it and they told me what to check,as it happened I was doing nothing wrong and had all my settings as they should have been, but since then , funnily enough ,I've had no more trouble,[fingers crossed ]. |

Will Copy and Paste below what the site (Scotlands People) itself has to say.... ActiveX Viewing Issues Some users of Microsoft Internet Explorer are having problems viewing images on our website by using our ActiveX control. We are currently investigating why this might be the case. Meanwhile if you are one such customer then please switch to either the Java Viewer or the Direct Download option for accessing images. You may change your viewer type by selecting your preferred viewing method on the 'My Details' page. Remember to click 'Update Details' once you have made your choice. If you do encounter this problem, the images are still available from your 'Viewed Images' section for no extra cost. Shaz |

For those of you that have credits disappearing after you have selected to view a page and nothing appears - if this happens, go to the viewed images tab and what you have already paid to view (whether it showed up the first time or not) will be stored there Regards Sue |

Hi Again Valerie.... I emailed Scotlands People last night about the issues with ActiveX and this is the reply.... The active x problem appeared to start after microsoft who own active x did an automatic upgrade. As this had nothing to do with site changes we have been unable to resolve the problem as it did not originate within our settings - we obviously have no access to microsoft details. We are currently working on a new viewer option however this will have to be fully tested before going live. Hope this helps... Shaz |
