Depends on what software you're using - I use Family Tree Maker and in that, if you go into a tree view, you can drag the individual boxes around to lay out any shape you like. You click on a box and hold the mouse button down, and can then move a whole branch. If you hold the Control key down first, you can move a single box. When you have your desired layout, you can save the customised view which you can then open again in the future. If you have interlinked relationships (such as cousins marrying), by default FTM will show each interlinked person twice. By dragging the boxes around, you can place these repeated names on top of each other so that when printed, all the inter-relationships are shown correctly. I managed to arrange my tree with 6 generations of ancestors so that they all fitted on an A3 sheet, and is still readable when printed out. Richard |

Well like many on GR i'm doing a tree of my birth family,unfortunately (short of DNA testing) my fathers side will remain empty,so my tree looks like a victim of a severe gale,empty on one side and leaning beyond the laws of physics on the other side. Glen |
