Hi, I have FTM 2005 and a very old computer. It works fine but I have never backed up my work yet. No recordable cd rom drive. Is this silly? Yes I suspect! How do others go on? ............................................................................. I would hate to lose all my work. ............................................................... Also, I have been sent an FBK file from a distant relation, but I'm not sure how to download or view it. Will it wipe off my existing work on FTM?.............................................................................................................. Sorry to sound so thick, but am quite new at this. And reading these boards you lot are quite knowledgable. Thanks |

Family Tree Maker FAQ 022The FBK files, produced automatically every time you open your file, are always placed in the same folder as their companion FTW file. ... A couple of suggestions If you have a USB socket, get yourself a Memory stick (125Megabytes for around £10) and copy the files on to that. This is far and away the easiest - forget CR-RW! Export the whole tree to GEDCOM and load to GR L |

Save your family file to gedcom. If you open another file the next time you open FTM it will open the same file again, a lot of people think that they have lost their original file when this happens but all you have to do is close that file down and re-navigate to your file which is stored in the FTW file on your hard drive. You can find this file by going to My Computer, Hard Drive (usually C) Program Files, FTW or Family Tree Maker depending on the version you have. Carol www*genealogyprinters*com |
