Does anyone know how I can trace my ancestor who went to New Zealand around 1870 give or take 5 yrs. He was Duncan Ferguson born Nov. 1846 in Glenorchy, Scotland (his parents were Peter & Catherine Ferguson). I don't have anymore info on him except he had a son out there called Dugald Livingstone Ferguson. I tried ship lists and genealogy searches but nothing. Any help would be gratefully received. |

Hi Michelle We don't have any more information on them at the moment. We are hoping that Dugald Livingstone Ferguson isn't a common name in NZ . The father, Duncan Ferguson could really have gone anywhere in NZ, our info is very vague I'm affraid. I am going to my parents at the end of April and we are going to try and get more info (Dad has loads of old letters and papers). Do you have anything on any Dugald Livingston Ferguson? |

Have a look at Archives New Zealand as they hold a 1952 Probate Record for Dugald Livingstone Ferguson - Grocer - Gisborne. http://archway(.)archives(.)govt.nz/ - remove brackets You could also look at members' interests at the NZ Society of Genealogists as there are several people researching the name Ferguson so you might strike it lucky: http://www(.)genealogy(.)org.nz/ remove brackets Good Luck Dee |

Hi everyone Great new, I have made contact with a v. distant relation in Dunedin who has the same family tree. Dugald Livingstone Ferguson married a Helen Livingstone so Michelle you were right. I am waiting to get more info now on their whereabouts and the rest of his brothers and sisters - 9 altogether + 1 illigitimate son left in Scotland (my ancestor!) Thanks everyone for your help so far. I may be back! Lesley |
