What is the significance on census.....

The where born column usually says 'ireland'for those born there,but what is the significance when it says 'Ireland British Subject'Fran |

Fran Assuming you are talking about the 1901 and prior UK censues..... I thought it maybe something to do with North and South being divided....But checking my Genealogy 'bible' that didn't happen until 1922. So, sorry, that isn't alot of help to you apart from discounting that possibility. Chris |

Presumably it means that his / her parents were from England, Scotland or Wales but were living in Ireland when he/she was born. Why they felt the need to make this clear, I don't know. Kate. |
