The MOD has agreed to award a badge to mariners from the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleet for their efforts on the Russian Convoys in the Second World War. Anyone who served up to 1954 is eligible. Next of Kin can apply in the case of deceased persons. How can I find out the name of the fishing vessel my grandad was on during the war? As a child I remember being told he was on the Russian Convoys. There is no-one alive to ask. Regards, Jackie

Thanks for that info. My Grandad was killed while serving on the Russian convoys aboard HMS Achates so I will definitely look into it. Where did you hear about the badge? Good luck with your search!

Will have to tell my Stepdad as he served (I think) in the Russian convoys in the Royal Navy. Hes 83 now but can talk your socks off about his war days.

If he was on the russian convoys he may well have a Medal Card which you can access through National Archives. :-) Keith

Thank you for all your replies. The information was in our local newspaper and on the MOD site there is an applicasion for the Artic Emblem. I am lucky enough to have my grandad's medals for WW1 and WW2 but I don't know any information about his service. He died in 1962 and at that time I wasn't interested in family history so I never asked questions. Regards, Jackie
