No certificates pre 1837. Parish registers have a wealth of information though. Some have been transcribed onto the IGI on the familysearch site but the actual records, or filmed fiche and films of them, often have snippets of information, which help to determine whether or not you have found the right people. Finding people in census in 1851 onwards should give you an idea of which parishes you need. |

the year 1837 is when civil registration was introduced, before that you need parish records |

I have been looking-up Births and deaths on the BDM index on ancestry web-site. It goes back to 1837. Do the records go back past that? (What i mean is can i obtain certifacates back beyond that date or will i have to obtain data through another source?) Thanks. mark |
