I have been searching for some relatives named John Stubbs and Charlotte Stubbs (I believe maiden name is Waudby) when i noticed that in the 1881 census they have a neice living with them named Minnie Luck b.1875 I'd like to find out who her parent is and where they are etc but can't find anything. I also can't find her later on in the next census but guess she's a servant in a household. I'm not sure which one she is though as none list her as being born in Hull like the 1881 census does. Can anyone help out? I'm too tired to carry on this evening but I'll be checking in the morning again so hopefully someone can save my eyes from falling out. |

1891: shes still with the stubbs but names have been mistranscribed: John Stutts abt 1821 Hull, Yorkshire, England Head Holy Trinity Yorkshire Charlotte Stutts abt 1823 Hessle, Yorkshire, England Wife Holy Trinity Yorkshire Minnie Such abt 1877 Hull, Yorkshire, England Niece Holy Trinity Yorkshire William Stubbs abt 1889 Hull, Yorkshire, England Grandson Holy Trinity Yorkshire Although images name looks like Suck or Such? possible birth? Name: Minnie Such Year of Registration: 1874 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Sculcoates County: East Riding Of Yorkshire Volume: 9d Page: 180 (of course all this is supposition! and thinking about it she may be a great neice, taking into account John and Charlottes ages) possible marriage of parents? Marriages Sep 1872 Stubbs Mary Jane Sculcoates 9d 235 Such James Sculcoates 9d 235 possible marriage for Minnie: Marriages Dec 1895 Collins Charles Sculcoates 9d 291 Downes Alice Sculcoates 9d 291 Smith William Sydney Sculcoates 9d 291 Such Minnie Sculcoates 9d 291 Well that funny???? If Minnie is Mary Janes daughter then that should make her Granddaughter to John? Think John must have a sistre Mary Jane and names his daughter aftre her? 1871: John Stubbs abt 1820 Hull, Yorkshire, England Head Sculcoates Yorkshire Charlotte Stubbs abt 1823 Hull, Yorkshire, England Wife Sculcoates Yorkshire Mary Jane Stubbs abt 1852 Hull, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sculcoates Yorkshire George Stubbs abt 1857 Hull, Yorkshire, England Son Sculcoates Yorkshire Catherina Stubbs abt 1860 Hull, Yorkshire, England Daughter Sculcoates Yorkshire William Stubbs abt 1863 Hull, Yorkshire, England Son Sculcoates Yorkshire Suzanne |

Thanks Suzanne that was most helpful. How do people decide on which certificates to buy? This post alone has given me loads of options for certs. to buy and these aren't even maternal or paternal. I wish I was rich. :) If I headed up to Hull with a list of names, dates etc would they let me peruse the files or would I be frowned at for giving some record office official so much work to do? Especially if I just take the information down and not purchase many certs? |

Hi Ian You could go to either the Hull RO or the East Riding CRO. Ring each first to see if they have the info you want, then you can decide which to visit. As you know, I'm not sure about the goings on at Hull, but for the East Yorks CRO you have to book an appointment. You also need a readers card, so if you don't have one, you will need to take your driving license with you (or something with your address on and something with your signature on). You can't purchase certs from the RO's but you can note down BMD's from the parish registers Jeanette x |

If you are thinking of making a trip, you will need to go to the East Riding CRO at Beverley, rather than Hull, to view the original records. If you ring them or e-mail them telling them which parishes (e.g Hull Holy Trinity or Sculcoates) and dates you are interested in, they should be able to tell you what PR is available. If they have the original marriage registers, then you will be able to either buy copies of the entries you need or copy thrm out. These will be the duplicate marriage registers, filled out at the same time as the ones which go to the local registry office. Think how many marriage entries you can look at in one morning! Jay |

I'm going to have to find a time to travel up to Hull aren't I... that is unless you ladies need something from the nottingham RO that I could fetch for you as a favour for you to fetch some for me. Hey, can I tempt you? Come on, I know you want to. ;) |
