The 'extracted' record is the correct one, as it was taken from the parish register. As for the 'record submitted by a member of the LDS church', we don't know where that person got their information from! Sometimes you can get contact information for the person who put this kind of record up and sometimes you can't, but anyway, you can rely on the 'extracted' records more than the 'submitted' ones. (In other words, if I were you I would ignore the 'submitted' records.) But you are always best to check in the actual parish registers. Kate. |

Thanks for that Kate, but I still cant understand how somebody can have all that information and enter it for the wrong county, after all, its a long way from Dorset to Wiltshire. |

JAMES COOK MARTHA HAYSHAM 04 APR 1774 Swanage, Dorset, England This one is an extracted marriage record James Cook Birth: About 1749Of, Bishops Cannings, Wiltshire, England Spouse: Martha Haysham 04 APR 1774 This one submitted by a member of the LDS Church. Actually had another look at this entry and it does not state where the marriage took place - just gives a birth place for James. Maureen |

Check the IGI record to see if it is an 'extracted from local records' one or a 'submitted by a member' one. The extracted ones are fairly reliable but the submitted ones can turn out to be someone's best guess and totally incorrect. Anne |

If they lived in separate parishes banns would have to be read on the three sundays before the marriage in both parish churches. Perhaps the person submitting the info saw the banns entry and just assumed the marriage had taken place in that parish. Not sure why they would have submitted the christening records for the wrong parish though - unless it was someone submitting info from a family record, like a family bible and they simply had it wrong. |

Could anybody out there please explain why a Marriage that took place in 1774 in Swanage,Dorset between James Cook and Martha Haysom would be duplicated in Bishops Cannings in Wiltshire,on the I.G.I, ? the same scenario applies to all their children. They were married in Swanage, and they did have their children there. Once again any explanation. Many thanks Denis Cook. |
