I recently found an Ancestor of mine in the 1807 & 1816 Liverpool directories - listed as Captain.. What's likely to be captain of? (Royal, Navy, Merchant Navy, Army?) |

Who knows? The rank of Captain applies to several services. As its Liverpool I am guessing captain of a ship. Any clues on The National Archives website? I think they do have shipping records. nell |

thanks - there's Military record on the NAtional archives site that could be him, but it's about 10 years out in ages (else he lied to join up) |
