i have a picture of an elderly man and a young boy which i think was taken around 1890ish. Now i know the name of the boy (Charles) and i believe the old man was his grandfather(?) The problem is i do not know whos son he is etc. Now there's a name on the back which is Andrews. Would this be the boys surname? If so why wouldn't it be the surname of the grandfather? thanks for any help

Can only answer you last question and it could be the grandfather's daughter that had the child hence their surnames beig different!! xx

Equally, someone could have had several copies made of the photograph and this was the one intended for Andrew! Victoria

Is the name of the studio on it? There are websites around that have such old photographs on display and you ma be lucky enough to find the same faces.
