Hi Laura I should have said I was interested in years1910 -1917. A lot of the records for Bideford North Devon were destroyed in WW2. I have previously made enquiries of Devon & North Devon Record Offices but they have only a few papers relating to the Bideford Poor Law Union. I just wondered if anyone had any ideas on where any copies/ other records of fostered childen might have been held. Would individual Parishes or Villages have kept their own record of 'registered foster parents'? |

I understand that from 1908 records were kept of all children fostered out by the Poor Law Unions. Most of the records for Bideford Devon are lost/destroyed. Would the local Parish have kept similar records? From a vague memory I think the village Vicar was a member of the Board of Guardians for Bideford Union. |
