I am trying to trace a Ruth Whalley in Staffordshire. I have her marriage to George Colclough in 1902 Newcastle under Lyme but she is not on the 1901 census. I realise that it may have been incorrectly transcribed - has any one any ideas how it may have been transcribed ???

Try Just Rut* Wha* or Rut Wal* if you are using ancestry Often the W's or M's looked like each other

Hi Ginny, Have you tried just searching under Ruth, DOB and place of birth? ie.. leaving out her surname? That'll give you all the probable Ruth's.. Sue
