AM TRYING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT A ROBERT ELLIS BORN IN PEMBROKESHIRE, WALES IN c.1844. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO RECORD OF A BIRTH FOR HIM BUT ON HIS MARRIAGE CERT HE RECORDS HIIS FATHER AS A ROBERT ELLIS, SCHOOLMASTER. I HAVE TRACED A ROBERT ELLIS IN THE 1841 CENSUS LIVING IN JEFFRESTON, PEMBS. HE IS A PRIVATE TUTOR SO HE IS PROB ROBERT'S FATHER. JEFFRESTON IS WHERE ROBERT 1844 WAS BORN. THERE IS NO RECORD OF A MARRIAGE FOR THE ELDER ROBERT THOUGH. IN THE 1851 CENSUS ROBERT IS 7 YEARS OLD AND LIVING WITH HIS GRANDPARENTS - JOHN HOWELL OF JEFFRESTON. HIS FATHER SEEMS TO HAVE DISAPPEARED!!! USING COMMON SENSE IF JOHN IS HIS GRANDFATHER THEN ONE OF JOHN'S CHILDREN SHOULD BE ROBERT'S MOTHER. HAVING BEEN THROUGH THE PARISH RECORDS JOHN'S ELDEST DAUGHTER WAS BORN IN 1828 SO ONLY 16/17 WHEN ROBERT WAS BORN!!!!! COULD THIIS BE HIS MOTHER??????? WITH NO BIRTH CERT OR MARRIAGE CERT OF THE ELDER ROBERT HOW WILL I WILL BE ABLE TO FIND WHO IS MOTHER WAS?????? ANY IDEAS???????

Looks like you need to look at the parish records for Robert juniors christening, it will give the mothers name and probably say if he was illegitimate. Good Luck

This could be a tough one. Have you tried looking under Robert Howell if his mother was only sixteen. It might be worth looking further afield in case she was sent away to have the baby.

Thanks for your ideas!! In 1841 the Grandfather John Howell is living in Jeffreston with his first wife Margaret and 5 children. Elizabeth is 11, and Margaret is 9 - his eldest daughters. These are the eldest daughters that i could find in Parish Records so was guessing that Elizabeth was mother. If he was illegitimate why would he keep the father's name throughout his life even though he is living with Howells'??????? Have just remembered that in 1861 he is living with Elizabeth with her husband George Nicholas. He is described as Relative!!!! Could this be a clue that Elizabeth is his mother?????? Any ideas????

Look for the marriage of George and Elizabeth. Heather
