What year did BMD start adding maiden names to bi

What year did BMD start adding maiden names to the births lists, i have just found a name i was looking for by looking at the childrens birth records, but on 3 of them it says Gratton on the other it says Galton, so im presuming Galton is a missprint.

I think it was about 1911, could be wrong, though.
