Yesterday, a lovely lady sent me an letter and a lovely penned family tree as a while ago we made contact when I heard she could be a relative. Here were the details that she drew up for me: The siblings she wrote down were: Maude, Dick, Bess, Kelly or Nelly and William (her Father born 1898) - Father of this clan was William It didn't tie in with my information as I had also an Edward George Taylor who apparently was Brother with the siblings above but she hadn't written him anywhere. The Fathers name was also different as on Edwards marriage cert, I had his Dad as Henry (Carpenter) Anyway as 1991 census return has given me the information below: Henry Taylor - Father Emily - Wife Children were: Gertrude Ann Emily MAUD - (Maud maybe?) George Edwin (could be spelt wrong so I thought this could be Edward) Richard - (is this Dick?) Edith Bessie (is this Bessie?) Henry Arthur - Mmm not sure but I know that the lady said that she may be sketchy on somethings. Would I be clutching at straws or are there too many similarities, I know she said that the siblings father's name was William but I guess that could be a middle name? I could I confirm these details, is it the same family? Super Sleuths to the rescue Thanks Folks Bev |

Rearranging your message as I found it a bit difficult to read (GR always crunches up the first posting on a new thread). Your contact has a list of siblings: Maude, Dick, Bess, Kelly or Nelly and William (her Father born 1898) Your family: Edward George Taylor who apparently was Brother with the siblings above but she hadn't written him anywhere. The Fathers name was also different as on Edwards marriage cert, I had his Dad as Henry (Carpenter) 1991 census has : Henry Taylor - Father Emily - Wife Children were: Gertrude Ann Emily MAUD - (Maud maybe?) George Edwin (could be spelt wrong so I thought this could be Edward) Richard - (is this Dick?) Edith Bessie (is this Bessie?) Henry Arthur - *********************************************************** well to see if its the same family or two different ones, you would need to see if you can find two different sets of them on the same census or two different birth certs for children with the sameish names. nell |

Is Gertrude Ann Emily Maud one person or 4 different sisters? |

Thanks for your knowledge, Gertrude and Maud are two different people. My Great Grandfather was Edward George on his marriage certificate with Henry as his father but I have never found the two together on any census returns, there is someone on this set of siblings who is George Edwin, I know sometimes that my Edward George is sometimes George Edward so I thought there could be a mistranscript. None of my returns have EVER been conclusive. What is Nelly sometimes short for? Bev |

Nelly/Nellie can be a name in its own right, but it is also short for Helen Ellen Eleanor/Elinor |

HI Georgina, thanks again, I always find this help really overwhelming! I am from Banbury so I always had a feeling that they didn't stray far, the lady who wrote the letter thinks that the siblings father married a lady with the surname Cook from Shennington! Do you think we've discovered the family? x She thinks that her Father William was my Great Grandfathers brother although she didn't write Edwards name down only the ones that I have listed. xx |

I guess William (her father) isn't anywhere but she doesn't think that he was born until 1898 x |

Emily is still listed as married but she is described as Head of the household. George's occupation looks like 'iron mould op. Inpot wks' and Michael is a carpenter. No occupation given for any of the others. nell |

Hi Folks, just picked this thread up as I knew I had to pack myself off to bed as I would never have gone. Thanks to all you stars, I think I have found the family. Can't thank you enough. Having a look at the transcriptions; I guess now I can see why I couldn't find them. Funnily enough, I live in London but I am off to Banbury and walk by those places all the time so makes me feel as little nostalgic. I bought a house there a while ago. All the time, I have tried to find Henry and Edward together, and although Edward is Edward on certs. I think he must have used the name George unofficially. THANKS EVERYONE! x |
