Hi i wonder if anyone can give me any advice althougth i feel cheeky asking as i have had quite a lot of help of the past week from lots of lovely people on here. i am trying to track down the aspinall family of bolton. on the 1841 census james aspinall is living with his wife jane and children. in 1851 jane is remarried to james swarsbrick. so james aspinall must have died !! i think jane and james swarsbrick married about 1846 but there are 8 james aspinalls who died in bolton between 1841 and 1846. is there any way i can narrow it down except send for death certs ?thanks for any help or advice. love linda x

It's a bit of a pain that the age at death isn't in the indexes until after about 1866. You could try finding the date of the 2nd marriage, or see if there's an entry on the National Burial Index (ask for a look up on the Records office board) in the right parish for your chap. nell

National Burial Index (NBI) is exactly what it says, an index to burials. It is not comprehensive or complete and coverage of some counties is better than others. Ask for an NBI lookup on the records office board. You might be lucky. NBI is searchable on a payperview basis on www.familyhistoryonline*com but check the parish/town and timescale you want are covered in the county database list before you buy any units. nell
