I know my Mothers DOB and where she was living when she got married, which I am fairly sure was the area where she was born. Yet the National Archives cannot trace any record of her birth in England or Wales. John

Hi Ozibird Can I just get you to clarify your comment 'It's free at the moment'? Does this mean they may start charging for it? Lyndsey

Ancestry BMD (non freebmd) is a Beta version. This means that we all get free access, in return for pointing out their little mistakes. Once they are convinced they have a service worth paying for, it'll be part of the subscription. However, it'll be supeceded anyway in a couple of years and I imagine that the official website will have to be free to search.
