Can anyone help. where would i find a list of Farm baliffs in either wiltshire or kent for around 1848 Thanks Karen |

Hi Karen I don't think there is one. My GG Grandfather was a Farm Bailiff in Bromley through the 1800's and we have never found him on anything other than census or certificate details. Sheila |

Hi Karen, Farm bailiffs varied from being land agents on estates to chief worker on a farm, taking orders from the farmer and supervising the other men. If yours was one of the former, acting as a land agent, you may find some reference to him amongst the private papers of the family of the estate owner, if you know who that was. Mine were the second sort of farm bailiff, and the only references I can find are in census. i haven't come across any lists of bailiffs. Jay |

I think the only place would be manorial records for the estate he worked on. |
