i have been trying to find grandad. on marriage cert fathers occ upation carter on railway. checked back on 1901 census and found his father as carter then back on 1891 census with the same people on it. thought i had found his birth cert with right fathers name and mothers and approx date of birth (thought i had got his mothers maiden name) the area in which his father had been brought up was the same but then i noticed that the fathers occupation was hydraulic packer. am i right in thinking that the first finds are the right ones (carter) i am very new at this and it is very confussing. thanks anne

Peoples occupations do change. How close to the 1901 census was the info on the certificate? For instance if the cert is for 1902 then the info should be close to that found on the 1901 census. Suzanne
