Could I ask is anyone else researching LARKIN especially from South Shields, Co Durham? I have been researching for only 18 months but I truly believe I cannot go any further as having emailed, written letters, visited Dublin and have had no success in finding out where in Ireland my Gr.Gr.Grandfather Simon Larkin was born, I know it was 1845 but not where, it really is driving me round the bend, so to speak! as I cannot move forward with my search until I have some idea where it was in Ireland the family came from. The family settled in Jarrow, South Shields information taken from 1881 and 1901 census, I have found out his wifes name and all the childrens names, dates of birth etc. Simon worked at the Steel Works in Jarrow and lived in North Street. His son my Grandfather Patrick Larkin also a steel worker lived in Bede Burn Road, Jarrow during the 1940`s and was married to Frances Brown a schoolteacher..Both sets of Grandparents were married in St. Bedes RC Church Jarrow. Some names which seemed to be linked to the family are Donathy. Doudican, Macparlin do any of these names mean anything to anyone? Sorry to go on a bit but sadly I am about to give up on the research. Kindest regards to all Malshie |

Sorry to hear your so disheartened. I know it can be tough going on Irish ancestors. If you do a search on GR search facility there are quite a few people researching Larkins name from ireland. I know its pretty obvious but have you tried searching for your names from Ireland to see if anyone on the site is connected? Suzanne |

Hi Suzanne, Thank you for your reply to my message, sorry I haven`t replied sooner but have been away for a few days. I have looked at people researching the larkin name but as yet have had no luck with any matches. Sometimes, it is a little disappointing when you think you have a name match and you send a message and await excitedly for a reply and nothing comes back. If only some people would realise how let down you feel, when all they have to say is `sorry no match `. Anyway, maybe I shall carry on for a little while longer!! Good luck with your own research and thanks again for you kind message.. Regards margaret |
