I'm linked to two trees, via one person George Hay c1845. George is on the 1851 as a five year old,i have two birth refs for possible matches in 1845 both in the same district, two possible matches for marriages in adjacent districts both in 1870. Both of the births have George and Ann as parents, how can i tell which is which, and on a marriage cert it will just say Father George Hay,so how can i tell which is which there? Both trees have conflicting information on opposite sides of George (1845),but both show the same partner for a marriage. Neither tree owner has certs for this George 1845 as they are both direct descendants, but i think it is two crossed trees. How can i split them? Glen |

Doesn't the fathers occupations help? or how about going for a siblings birth certificate first to help break it down for you. |

Hi Carrie, never thought of that, pretty obvious really. 'my' George disappears in the 1861,but the rest of the family are in Norfolk by then, although George 1845 was born at Berwick. His sister (1843) is in Norfolk, along with father, stepmother etc,but no sign of him, then suddenly the two Dec 1870 marriages. He has a brother (1847) who worked as a mariner/master mariner,i'm trying to avoid several certs and a brickwall. Glen |

I see 2 birth records for George Hay. One is March Qtr 1845 in Berwick, the other Dec Qtr in Berwick. I found George Hay on the 1851 with parents George and Ann. Since he is listed as being born in 1846 then it's likely this George is the one born in Dec Qtr. I am not seeing the George Hay born in March Qtr on the 1851. It's possible this one could have died. Yeah thanks Rosemary I have the two birth refs, two marriage refs and a death ref, from June qtr '51. I think i could split this one with the two marriage certs, using the fathers occupation as the clincher. Unfortunately the death index can't help due to the age not being entered,i wonder if my George died. Would both marriage certs be the best way,(i haven't checked beyond 1870 yet though) ---HOLD ON---- My birth refs are both Berwick Jun qtr v25 pg23 Dec qtr v25 pg 7 Can't see the March one though Glen |
