Most of the marriages in my family seem to have been witnessed by one relative and one friend/acquaintance/whatever. I don't know how common this would be, though. The two witnesses of my g. g. grandparents' marriage were a fellow servant from the house where my g. g. grandmother was working, and my g. g. grandmother's sister's husband. Admittedly the choice of witnesses was probably influenced heavily by neither of the marrying couple originally being from the town that they got married in.

Thanks both, neither of them have a sibling Sarah, I will see if I can find her on a census anywhere or where else would be the best place to look to see who she married? Regards, Bev

The marriage was 1869, so you could look on 1871 census to see if there was a Sarah Lines living nearby? If not, try the census before, as she could have got married herself between 1869 / 1871 and changed her name. I have found witnesses in the past this way - It's worth a try? Dea x

Hi all, I wondered where I would be able to find details of this person; Sarah Lines, she was a witness on the marriage certificate of my Great Grandparents. I am intrigued as the other witness married the brides' sister so I wondered if Sarah was also a relative. They were married in 1869 in Cubbington What is the best way to find a link? Thanks folks Bev
