Incidentally, the Merthyr Vhoor you mentioned as Nicholas Dillon's birthplace was transcribed by ancestry as Merthyr Moor and there's a Merthyr Moor near Bridgend in Glamorgan. I checked on the IGI, unfortunately the records for Merthyrmoor (as its called on Hugh Wallis' batch numbers) start at 1813, so they wouldn't have your Mary Ann, but they do have Nicholas: IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International NICHOLAS DILLON Christening: 08 JUL 1827 Merthyrmawr, Glamorgan, Wales Parents: Father: NICHOLAS DILLON Mother: ANN Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date. Source Information: Batch No.: Dates: C057181 1813 - 1871 of course there's no way of knowing if they are connected! nell

I see the same batch has this record: SAMUEL DILLON Marriages: Spouse: MARY ROBINSON Family Marriage: 01 JAN 1837 Saint Martin Orgar And Saint Clement Eastcheap, London, London, England Samuel isn't listed as one of Mary Ann's children, so maybe he is a nephew or a much younger brother? nell

If you've only seen this on the IGI you haven't seen the original document, which should have witnesses' names. These might be friends, but quite often they were parents or siblings of the couple. nell

You say that you have viewed the original document for the marriage entry, but later refer to it as a 'scrap of paper' so have you in fact only viewed the Pallots' marriage index slip ? Surely the marriage entry in the parish register would have witnesses at the period you are talking of. (Mind you they still might not have beeen members of Mary's family.)

Guess that's a no, then!! But, just in case someone is REALLY bored AND going through an inspired phase... I have also tried the obvious searches to see if anyone else has her in their tree. Victoria - who is working herself up to confront you all with her other copper-bottomed, brass-bound dead-ends ---- just in case...

Hi Nell - No, it is just the little scrap of paper that shows the names of the protagonists!!! So no witnesses. Their children were George, John, Mary, Ann, Charlotte and William!!! Nothing there either. I DID find a Nicholas Dillon in Marylebone, a footman aged 24 in 1851 - so more likely a nephew rather than a brother - born in Merthyr Vhoor??? A Martha Dillon is living with a servant, aged 74 in Carnaravonshire and 93 year old Florence is a Lodger in Anglesea, Llancoed. But nothing to connect even if they ARE family members!! Yes, the Dilon, Dilan alternatives came up, but didn't look for Dylan although I did think of it - because if it was spelt differently there would be even less 'linkage'! Victoria

Any clues with the witnesses? If Mary had children, did any of them have unusual names which might be a clue, or possibly names of Mary's parents? Have you tried Dylan, Dilon, Dilan etc. nell

IGI Individual record – Mary An Dillon married John Rogers 01 August 1819 at St Martin Orgar and St Clement Eastcheap. I have viewed the original document that just says John Rogers married Mary Ann Dillon. 1841 census – Mary Rogers, 40 – (not born in the county) 1851 census – Mary A, 51 – born in Wales 1861 census – John Rogers, Widower I have found a death for Mary Ann Rogers in the June quarter of 1855. I have ‘done’ the census’ for Dillons’ – and not found anything that even looks as though it could be Mary Ann’s family. There doesn’t seem to be any specific area where Dillons are more likely to come from. Has anyone any suggestions? Victoria
