A friend of mine knows she was adopted by her step father when she was 7yrs. She as her birth cert (1956) and there is no father named, she as asked me.... as her father is'nt named on the birth cert, would her mother have needed permission from the biological father to allow the adoption to go through??.... Can someone help me as im clueless about the adoption procedure.....thanks....ps my friend was told by her mother who her biological father was....

I am fairly certain - though Jess is the Adoption Query Expert - that until recently biological fathers, if not named on the cert, had no rights. In fact, being named on the cert didn't mean anything in terms of rights, unless they were married to the mother. nell

Hi, I don't think she would need his permission if he was not named on the BC, also the only way he could be down as the father on the BC would be if he went with the girls mothers at the time and gave his permission. Sheila

I have spoken with my friend since i posted this request, she as been informed by her family that her biological father was present at court in connection with the adoption. The biological father never had access to my friend nor did he finantially support her. As already said above, i also thought he would have no rights especially not being named on the birth cert, i wonder why he was in court then???
