Searching BMD Index....

Evening everyone! When looking for a birth entry, I am manually searching each of the 4 quarters for the possible years of birth by using the BMD Index in Ancestry.co.uk. This is lengthy work (but worth it for the big grin when I finally strike gold!) but I wondered if there was a faster 'search' method I could use, like putting in the name, year, town, etc for a list of possible birth options to look at??? Ok, I'm too impatient I know!!!

Not if you're trawling, there isn't. If you're looking before 1920, try familyrelatives for 1866-1920 and FreeBMD for everything else. Familyrelatives is pay-per-view, but well worth it, as it is fully(ish) transcribed for those years, so you only get what you ask for.

Ancestry.co.uk is a good site which lets you put info in - but it's not complete and not very god for after 1900.

in a word ''NO!'' not after about 1901 anyway this is why when people ask for a specific request for a specific year it is often completed by two or three people but if the request is for ''sometime between 1919 and 1965'' it isn't!!

With the BMD it all depends on if your willing to pay and the time frame your looking at. FreeBMD is transcribing the BMD's the Majority of BMD's are now transcribed up to 1910 Family Relatives have the complete transcription of 1866 to 1920, but it is a pay per veiw service.
