I have found two possible marriages on the Pallots Marriage Index for England 1780-1837. Other than the information on the image i.e. names and date. Is there anywhere else I can look for more information. Thanks Malcolm

You would have to find out where the Parish registers are held for the appropriate parish. You may find the only additional info is the names of the witnesses and the signatures or X's of the bride, groom and witnesses. This may not help you, or it may prove vital to your research!! For which church were the entries you found? Merry

Oh, on the image you have seen it usually gives you the condition of the bride and groom just by the initial letter: b = bachelor s = spinster w = widow(er) sometimes they are not too easy to read. Also l for licence (if the marriage was not by banns) Merry

Thanks Merry I found Robert Sullivan on the 1851 & 1841 Census with wife Elizabeth and children. I ordered the film from the IGI and found the first three children had mother Frances. On Pallots there are two marriages. Robert Sullivan & Frances Logsdell 1827, St. John Hackney Robert Sullivan & Elizabeth Cook 1834 Whitechapel St. Mary. The marriage dates fit with the childrens DOBs. I would like to get copies of the marriage certs but not sure how to do this, or if they will give any more information than what I have. Malcolm

If it was me I would first try and get a birth cert for any child born after 1837 (if there were any children born then). Civil registration came in in 1837, but there was no legal obligation to register a birth until 1875. If you can order a copy of one of the childrens birth certs then you will have the maiden name of the second wife on the cert which may lead you to the correct marriage. The problem with the Sullivan/Cook marriage you found is that Robert Sullivan said he was a bachelor (see the ''b'' next to his name on the image), so on the face of it, it's not the one you want as he should be a widower. Can't really comment on the other one!! Merry

I just got back from walking the dog. I have ordered a birth cert for one of the children (Sarah DOB 24/09/1838) they usually take about four weeks to get to the States. Thanks again for your help. Malcolm
