Sorry, I need help again! I have recently made contact on here with a lovely lady, and we are trying to prove / disprove a link on my fathers side. I am having trouble locating the birth information for her ancestor on familysearch. This is the information: My anestor Thomas Gardner born 1808, Northleach / Notgrove, Glos to parents William / Ann. Has a sister called Hannah born 1808, also in the same area and died fairly young - buried in Northleach Church. (Which makes me think that they family didnt leave the area). The 'brother' that we are trying to find the link for is Peter Gardner born 1814 in Painswick - father on marriage certificate is listed as William Gardner from Quay Street (a butcher). (Name and occupation match my William Gardner (c1789 Notgrove). The 2 things that are concerning me is that I cant find Peters birth information when Hannahs and Thomas' exist. And als the difference in location - I have checked the map and Notgrove / Northleach are very close together, but Painswick is the other side of Cheltenhem. Any ideas on where to go? I dont want to dis-regard the link, nor assume its correct - it will be the first link on this line, and so am very cautious of my own excitement.

Just looking at the Painswick batch on the IGI, it looks as though there were a lot of Gardners there, so it could well just be a coincidence. After all, William is a very common name. Kate.

Painswick and Northleach will presumably be different parishes, and the births are 6-8 years apart. That might explain the difficulty locating the birth record,is there any other 'common' information that you and the other tree owner have. Maybe that sounds a little too obvious but is it just a name and rough date match or is there something a little more substantial? Glen

Thats pretty much it unfortunately. the only other snippet is that a Chantelle Gardner wa a witness at peters wedding to an Emma Rowles in 1837.

The first thought that came to me, was that the year for Peter (1814) In 1813 a new type of baptism register started to be used. Before that date births and burials were in the same book. I wonder if the IGI only has the records up to that date. A check on Hugh Wallis barch numbers site should tell you. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb(.)com/~hughwallis/ remove brackets The only way perhaps is to look at the original record, the parish register, to see if Peter had the same parents.
