How do I find if family went to America

Where do i start looking for family who ?went to America ?Boston in c1870's On 1901 has two son's born America ---in feint writing in end column look's like Canada but family think they went to Boston

try looking on Ancestry they have usa census

Normally I would say can you find them on the 1880 US census on Family Search, but the site isn't working at the mo!! My rellies made sure they travelled to the states after the US 1880 census and before the UK 1881 census, ensuring they were not on either!! Merry

I am on a trial for Ancestory --but not the deluxe on that allows you to look at things for America---so can't access it. Thank you

Dea Apparently--BIL when in New York looked on there and couldn't find them but thanks. John Mc Donnell born c 1841 in Ireland Don't know his wife's name his son's who were born in America/Canada are James c 1873 and Henry c 1877

Dea x Found some more - there was a whole family of them: John (he was a Smith) + wife Annie + children Lily (9), William (7), George (5), John (4), and Walter (2). All bound for New York.
