Can anyone help me i'm having problems tracking down the Kershaw part of my family in the census'. For starters on my great great grandmothers marriage certificate Tom Kershaw is stated as her father and alive (deceased not written) this was 1902. So why isn't he on the 1901 census? Also Tom's Father Edwin Kershaw born around 1822 only appears on the 1861 and 1871 census. I cannot find him or any of his family apart from Tom after 1871? Is there any reasons for this? Its driving me MAD. Dan. |

Have you found your great grandmother on the 1901 census? Her father might be deceased, they just neglected to say when she got married. |

When was Tom born, just so that we can trace him in prev census, etc. And Alice, if you don't mind. |

Alice was born in Wakefield 1883, Tom Kershaw born in Wakefield 1854 (but census has him down as 1855), and Edwin Kershaw born in Wakefield c.1822. As you can see my family didn't get around much! |

David Neither did one line of mine, which is very handy actually and just down the road from your lot in Halifax. On the various certs, etc did any streets/areas of Huddersfield keep cropping up. It might be worth wading through the census pieces to try and find them. If you pop them on here, we could always have a go. |

I've just checked the wedding certfificate and Tom Kershaw was alive, he signed his own name on it. |

for reference 1871 Edwin Kershaw, Head, 49, Stone Mason Sarah Kershaw, Wife, 46 George Kershaw, Son, 18, Stone Mason Thomas Kershaw, Son, 16, Engine Cleaner Ann Kershaw, Dau, 14, Scholar Alice Kershaw, Dau, 11, Scholar Emma Kershaw, Dau, 10, Scholar William Kershaw, Son, 3, Scholar living at Hardy Croft, Huddersfield in 1881 Sarah Elizabeth Rogers, Head, Wid, 57 Alice Kershaw, Dau, U, 21, Mill hand Emily Kershaw, Dau, U, 20, Mill hand William Kershaw, Son, 13, Scholar living at Hardy Croft, Huddersfield. I would guess that Edwin died between census, Sarah remarried then he died (she must've been a very bad cook!). |

There's an option of Sarah Elizabeth Kershaw marrying Christopher Rogerson, Wakefield, QE Jun 1876 on FreeBMD. If that's her then Edwin must've died before then. There is a possibility of Deaths Jun 1872 KERSHAW Edward 51 Wakefield 9c 32 Again, from FreeBMD. |
