If I'm looking for a birth cert abt 1817 will it be online or do I have to now go to records office? Ali x |

It won't be online and it won't be at the records office because birth certs didn't start until civil registration came into being on 1st July 1837. You will need to look for a baptism. This might be on www.familysearch.org, but if not, it will be in the county records office. nell |

Alternatives to visiting the records office would be seeing if the relevant family history society has any transcripts. There are also some parish registers on www.familyhistoryonline*com but this is payperview so check the area and period you want are covered in the databases before you buy any units. nell |

Alison You might find it useful to go to the homepage and scroll down for ages and look at the Getting Started section which has basic info about what records, where and when are in existence. Sometimes its straightforward, and sometimes not! nell |
