I only discovered recently the same thing as Rachel suggested - select 'Draft' or 'FastDraft' for printing instead of 'Normal' as it does save a great deal of ink. Thanks to those who gave tips on saving the images - I am so dopey sometimes, I never thought of doing that so was very glad to see this thread! Mandy in Somerset (a Pilgrim Mother in Exile Donald?)

Thank you David I am an untidy individual where paperwork is concerned. Perhaps a regime would be benificial for me. That's if I can keep it up. Cheers

I always firstly download the image to my hard drive and save it. I then read it and enter all useful information about the Census, Place, and all the relevent People into a new document. I use a html (web page) document, but perhaps other people might use an excel spreadsheet, word document, or text file. I then print my document, and store the printed copy in a book. I save the Census-image and Document in a folder on my PC. My naming convention is Census_1891_Bloggs_Fred.jpg Census_1891_Bloggs_Fred.html where Fred Bloggs is the head of household. I would store this on my PC in a folder called Census_1891, this will contain details for all the 1891 censuses I find. The Census_1891 folder is in a folder called Census, one folder for each census year exist in the Census folder. Hope this is of use..

My PC uses Micorsoft Office. On ancestry census image, just click 'SAVE' button. Choose save to my computer. Give the image a name and choose location to save it. Find the file on your computer and when you open it should open in Microsoft Picture Manager. Click edit picture button and a crop option is available. Crop off the black borders, print & save changes. Hope this makes sense Helen

Zoom in on your ancestors details, request print selecting current view. Then only the area zoomed in on gets printed. I print my images on draft which is usually sufficient.

I am using a lot of black ink printing census extracts - i.e. the black border. Anyone got any tips as to how to select the print area only, then what is done with it and subsequently print that said area?
