Stuart, Sunderland registration district have the marriage archive available online. http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/pages/registrars/ According to their site there were four Isabella COOK marriages in Sunderland between 1890-1900. Surname Forename(s) Year of Marriage COOK Isabella 1892 RACE William H 1892 Surname Forename(s) Year of Marriage SNOWBALL William 1897 COOK Isabella 1897 Surname Forename(s) Year of Marriage COOK Isabella 1898 BURNETT William 1898 Surname Forename(s) Year of Marriage ELSTON John 1898 COOK Isabella 1898 A quick check of these in the 1901 census shows: Isabella RACE (wife of William) born 1870 Sunderland Isabella SNOWBALL born 1878 Yorkshire Isabella BURNETT (wife of William) born 1877 Sunderland Isabella ELSTON (wife of John) born 1877 Sunderland So Isabella Race is the likely match (unless your Isabella wed outside of Sunderland!) Thanks for all this, great help - so if I have it correct, I can now pin Isabella down to having married between 1891 and 1901 (I am certain that it is the same Isabella in the 1891 and 1881 records). Having been born in 1971 I would now be able to review the marriage certs for one with her age to be approx 20 - 30. How would I be able to access the certs referenced - through the ancestry site?

I want to further trace Isabella Cook (b.1871) In 1881 she lived at 46 Laurence Street, Bishopwearmouth but no sign of her in the 1901 census as still living with the family. So I presume that she either married (probable) or died (less probable) between these two dates. Any further help much appreciated.

You need to search for her marriage either on free BMD or use Ancestry to find her marriage. Then you will need to apply for the certificate unless you have some idea of her spouse's sur name. What was her name on the last census you found her on ? (Give the census date too) :0) Joan

If I want to trace a great aunt who got married between census, what is the best way? Would I need to go up to where they last lived? It is a bit of a trek!
