1841 census John Webb b. Thundridge , Herts .1811, wife Martha b. 1805. Living in Colney Heath, Herts with Mary Ann b. 1834, Elizabeth,b.1837 and George b. 1840. They have 2 more children, Martin b. 1846 and Catharine b. 1849 The children are born in Standon, Herts. By 1851, John is a widower and has married Jane. Martin and Catherine only ,live with them. By 1861, they are living in Ware, Herts, have had three more boys but there is no Martin or Catharine. bearing in mind, some of the children may have died young or gone into service, why can I not trace any of them in the bmds?. I really have spent hours on it. If anyone has any fresh ideas on how to approach this, please let me know. |

Hi Teresa Some children may hav gone to live/stay with relatives, be in hospital/workhouse.................. The Census only records people at that address on the night of the census. Have you tried searching the census for their names? hope that helps a little Jo |

yes, that is the right John and Jane. Martin may have been at sea. I think I have found George in the 1901 census, but where are they in between? I would have thought if John took a second wife, it would be to help with the children if they are alive. Could they have all died with their mother? I have checked the censuses but they don't seem to be there. |
