Ive just been given a short window by son to have a look for this guy - someone contacted me through hotmatches - wondering if he is connected to them. As he isnt direct line its not someone I have studied much - however I cant seem to find him now that I am looking. It may be he is at sea, but I thought the son should turn up? He wont be married to a Sophia, she is a second wife (my ancestors lot) and he brought the son William with him. I have him in the 71 and 81 and believe I may have found a death for him in Rotherhite 1889 - age is right but his name is given as HENRY David Sword. 1871: Rotherhithe David Sword Head 37 Mariner born Newcastle Sophia Sword 38 wife born Surrey Rotherhithe William Sword 14 son born Newcastle Charlotte Steers widow 62 Sempstress Emily A Horstead wife 29 ' Emily A Horstead daughter 2

having had NO LUCK WHATSOEVER on the census.... I was looking at all the rubbishy submitted entries that may relate to this David Sword on the IGI. Suppose you don't know who his first wife was?? Wondered if this is her? David Sword Birth: About 1835 , Northumberland, England Marriages: Spouse: Eliza Drummond Marriage: 13 SEP 1856 All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England Messages: Record submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church. About right date for the child on the 1871 census. And the cert would help trace David?? BTW - What are those Horsteads doing there in 1871?? They are the nextdoor neighbours! (Well, all in the same front door, but a single line between them and the Swords, also a single line either side of Charlotte Steers too..........) Merry

He married Sophia Steer(well when she was a widow). Emily Horstead is Sophias sister and is my GGM, Charlotte Steers is my GGMX2! You know the Horsteads nearly as well as me, dont you!

Thanks guys, I suppose it is just possible he could have taken a small kiddie on a boat with him or left him at a relative and the name has got mistranscribed. Never mind, thanks for the efforts.

Is the William Sword b & living in Newcastle in 1861 not your boy? Unless they are playing silly devils with first names, there only appears to be one in the 1861 (and NONE in 1871!)

I knew the Horsteads were your rellies and thought you had got these Sword interlopers sneeking into your family where they maybe shouldn't be......But now I understand!! On another submitted entry for David's marriage (the first marriage) it says his dad is William Sword, so I wonder if he belongs with this lot? 1851 Ann Sword abt 1838 Newcastle Daughter Newcastle upon Tyne All Saints Northumberland Dorothy Sword abt 1824 Newcastle Daughter Newcastle upon Tyne All Saints Northumberland Mary Sword abt 1798 Newcastle Wife Newcastle upon Tyne All Saints Northumberland Robert Sword abt 1851 Newcastle Son Newcastle upon Tyne All Saints Northumberland Thomas Sword abt 1830 Newcastle Sister Newcastle upon Tyne All Saints Northumberland William Sword abt 1796 Newcastle Head Newcastle upon Tyne All Saints Northumberland William is a Waterman! I nearly got a Fanny out of the hotmatch, but the hotmatcher has just been back and says she cant see a connection!! Thats my window gone now guys, so have to make a landing now. Lovely speaking to you all, as always - I do feel a lot more optimistic - Ive sent off for 7 certs in last week. Hubbys GGF birth came yesterday - it looks like his GGMx2 family had a picture framing business in Soho. That interested him, as its always been his hobby (as you may have noticed Brenda!) His other GGFx2 turned out to be a gunsmith - hubbys first job and love, made redundant as an apprentice from it. I feel quite jealous of him as his genes seem to be clearly in all his ancestors - cant yet make mine out clearly in my lot. Right, being dragged off the seat now - try to look inlater.
