If you don't get any help on this board, then google Illtyd and there is a church of St. Illtyd which has a phone number and email address, so you could perhaps give them a ring and ask how the name is pronounced. Kath. x

The who name is welsh, I would say. I'm Welsh my self but never heared of they middle name. Have searched it: ILLTYD Gender: Masculine Usage: Welsh Means 'multitude of land' from Welsh il 'multitude' and tud 'land, people'. This was the name of a 6th-century Welsh saint who founded the abbey of Llanilltud in Glamorgan. In English it would be said ill-tud, but in welsh it's more difficult to explain: I - as in IT LL - Put your tongue in the position for 'L' and blow out. Example: 'llid'. tyd - Tid

I seem to remember we had a similar one not so long ago, who also had his village as a name - may be a local thing? Worth checking out that village I would have thought.

Well a guess it's like alot of old welsh names and discribes the person or the dreams of the parents. You might find that Illtyd is a family name. It's the same with Welsh place names. The name is desciptive. Pontypridd means Brigde the ground Llanelen marns the church of Ellen .. And a word of warning, don't be suprised if Owen becomes Owain (welsh, pronounced O-wine), as Owen is an English form of Owain and Eoghan (irish). I know quite a few Owain's that get called Owen.

Hi this is a Saints name and used as you would use Mark John Peter etc as names. There are a few welsh Churches with this name, I used to live near St Illtyd`s in Llanhilleth Gwent

With a name like Owen Jones, to me it sounds very sensible AND helpful to put an unusual middle name, especially if it turns out to be associated with the village where he was born, or of his forebears!! Wish parents of all the John Smiths and Mary Browns has thought to do that! jay

Hi Heather Many thanks for that but all i can find out about the name is about the names of churches and not a village of some sort, i have never heard of someone having their middle name named after a village or church, it`s bad enough having James, Jones, Davies and the Smiths from Wales let alone having this aswell. Kindest Regards Lyn x.
