I'm interested in a family who lived in Kentuck from about 1850. I've checked out Ancestry and all it has, but haven't worked out quite what I need to. Is there anywhere else I can try, from my PC? lol

Don't know if this is any help or not, worth a shot maybe ..... My husband's family were originally from Kentucky and I was given a link to the following site from one of his distant cousins. www(.)rootsweb(.)com/¬usgenweb/ky remove the brackets and character before usgenweb should be a wiggly line, it is on my keyboard but is not coming out that way on the screen Hope it helps, Emma

Maybe I can help you find your Kentuckians. Can you give me some names and dates of birth? Rose

Thanks Rose. I'm looking for the marriage of Thomas O'Mara to Mary Mapother (nee Cruise) between 1870 and 1880. They had a son in 1877. Also looking for death of Dillon H Mapother, born c1835, died in same decade. He was a Lithographer (Hart, Mapother & Co). Both men were born in Ireland I think. Mary was from New Jersey. They lived in Louisville, Jefferson.

As in Tom Cruise Mapother?

Eventually, yes, but not then.

It's pretty obvious but I guess you've tried googling? Lot's of stuff on Mapother in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky.

Yes, but most of it is wrong lol I've been checking it all, and most places say Dillon was from Wales. The censuses quite clearly say he's Irish, and there's a passenger immigration list for him, originating in Ireland. Most of it also says that Thomas Cruise Mapother (the first one) was Dillons son. He wasn't. He was the son of Thomas O'Mara and Mary (Dillons widow). This is why I need to find some more substantial information.

I assume you found them, the O'Mara's and Mapother's 1880 census all living together in Kentucky. Rose

Found this info about Dillon on one of the Ancestry Family Trees Name: Dillon H. MAPOTHER Given Name: Dillon H. Surname: Mapother Sex: M Birth: 1832 in Ireland Death: ABT 1876 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky Immigration: 2 JAN 1850 New York from Liverpool Note: Ship Wisconsin Occupation: Engineer 1850 New York Occupation: Lithographer 1860 Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky None are showing up on the Kentucky Marriage or Death Indexes Perhaps you could contact the State Records Dept. The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, P.O. Box 537, 300 Coffee Tree Road, Frankfort, KY 40602, (5O2) 564-8300, has birth and death records for the cities of Louisville, Lexington, Covington and Newport, which were established under city ordinance prior to 1911. They also have pre-1911 birth and death records (statewide coverage) and 1911-1955 death records (statewide coverage). Copies of marriage certificates prior to June 1958 may be obtained from the County Clerk in the county where the license was issued. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Rose Rose
