A drover is someone who drives herds of cattle or other animals around from one place to another, for example from the farm to market.

I would think that going from drover to butcher would be quite usual. After all, they are both concerned with farm animals and getting them to the consumer!!

Cattle from Scotland to London, and Sheep from the West Country are two others. If you find a Ship Inn in the middle of a Wiltshire village there will be a drove road nearby as it is a corruption of Sheep Inn. :-) Keith (Alter ego -like it!!)

Unmade road round here (Norfolk) are still called 'droves'
