Thanks everyone. As the mother's maiden name was included in the index, I have also been looking for this, rather than just the Christian name, again with no luck. Bit of a mystery really as can see no reason why she wouldn't be there! Allie ps also looked at foot of page additions!

To answer the original question, it is indeed possible that a birth in the 1930s wasn't registered. Extremely uncommon, but it did still happen.

If you know she was born at the same place as the other two, you could try contacting the local Reg Office, as sometimes an entry gets lost on it's way to the GRO....... Is she helping you?? Do you have an actual date and place of birth? Are you sure she hasn't got a birth cert you can borrow? Or are things not that simple! LOL ( I don't need the gory details!) Merry

Hi Ali Hope you don't mind me asking but if your desperate to find the info have you tried searching 1837 online - I know it costs but some times you just have to bite the bullet!! Good luck anyway Regards Jane

Sometimes babies were just registered as Female instead of a name. It's also worth checking the bottom of the page as often handwritten or typed additions are put there. nell

No advice but sympathy extended. Spent days searching censuses for my gt gt gt grandfather, to no avail. Then punched his sons name in and up he popped! Sometimes you have to look from a different angle. Good luck, Cheralyn, (not from but in Cornwall!!)

Was it possible for someone's birth not to be registered in the early 1930's? Been trying all afternoon to find my Aunty on the birth index with no luck. Her two sisters are there but can't find her! She was the middle child so I have narrow parameters! ( Have tried different spellings and quarters)
