Hi there everyone, I am hoping someone out there will know the answer to this. I have just found a relative on the 1861 census and it has his occupation as SAWYER. Can anyone help me out with what this occupation was? Thanks for your time |

Katherine You don't have to spend hours looking, you could just google 'sawyer definition' or use a dictionary. nell |

If you put, specifically, in the search box definition: [word] Google pulls up all the dictionary definitions of [word] it can find online for you. Christine |

Googling is really good, but not as nice and friendly as asking real people on here.....and if we didn't ask on here, I wouldn't know what a beaver blower did............................................................................................! Would I? Merry |

I wouldn't like to ask about beaver blowing on an American forum! |

Doesn't always have to be timber that they sawed. I have generations of stone sawyers in Wiltshire, from Christian Malford, Box and Corsham. Sometimes they graduated into being stone masons. Bev from Perth |
