Just received an email from MyTrees(.)com re a new magazine that will be orientated towards genealogy on the internet. It looks promising, albeit with an American bias. You can download a free preview issue of the magazine from the link on their home page: http://internet-genealogy(.)com/index.shtml

Whilst on this subject, can I deviate slightly, and ask if anyone belongs to any county Family History Societies and if they notice from the society mags how anti-computers/internet in general they seem to be???? (or is it just me??) I belong to four or five county socs and they always seem to be full of bad-tempered letters saying how dreadful it is that more info is becoming available........I don't like reading them any more - not good for my bloodpressure! LOL Merry

Merry - it does seem a bit of a Luddite attitude, doesn't it? I guess that I can understand it a bit though - these ''old-school'' genealogists spent literally years wading through censuses and parish registers, and now all these young upstarts can get the same info or more in just a few minutes, from the comfort of their own homes! That's progress!

LOL Richard......but I AM one of those!!! LOL........I remember when our local library had a little bit of the 1881 on fiche and that was it! Then the LDS issued it on disk and I was in heaven! I think the mag sounds good!! Merry

I remember on a visit to England a couple of years ago, I took my laptop with me to the LMA. Had one old dear come up to me and harangue me, about why did I need one of those and what was wrong with the good old pencil and paper! Of course I just smiled but I know that if I had everything that is on my laptop printed out on paper, I'd have needed a large suitcase to carry it all around. And no doubt I would have wasted valuable research time double checking info with what I already had, so easily accessible on the computer.

Bet she wouldn't have wanted to use a stone tablet and chisel for her notes? LOL Merry

The mag does sound promising. I am a 5 hour drive from my capital city so would be lost without the internet for research.

Hi Merry It was the match made etc Wills/Bryant marriage ! ALSO My husband was talking to one of his customers about family history as they have been searching for years, mention the internet and you can almost see the steam coming out of their ears, I know I would not have come this far without it and have made alot of friends on the way through chatting Elaine
