hi all, looking for a g/aunt who is on the 1891 census, at least I Think its her. So off i send an email to this reg office asking for their help by telling me who the brides father was, well actually givng them a name. The only other info l had was the qrt and the year, the GRO REF, and place of registration, and of course the brides name. now its only a small registry office, so I was hoping that they would do that for me. Got an email back today, asking me for the following info before they could do a check. 1. name of bride and address. 2. name of the groom and address 3. name of father of the groom, 4. name of the brides father. plus names of any likely witnesses. Well I ask you,! if I knew all that I wouLd be looking for her would I? I know these registry offices are busy but surely there is someone there who could have read my email before sending me this message. TED. |

Sorry about the last reply - but your message made me laugh. The registry office don't like to give out any info - but I find if you ask them to confirm and you give them the name you think it is they will usually give you a yes or no answer. I found this when I was questioning whever my greatgrandad had died of Maleria, they pulled out the book and said yes. Saved me buying the certificate. Good Luck. Louise |

Register Offices don't use the GRO numbers. Apart from the quarter and year, all you've provided them with is the bride's name. If there're two women with the same name marrying in that quarter, they won't necessarily know which one is yours. They've sent you a standard email with what they'd like you to provide, but they should be able to find it if you give them the groom's name. |

Twinkle, hi, yes I know they dont use the GRO refs and there was only 1 FANNY married in that year, and in that area, and as it happens I couldnt find the grooms name because the marriage isnt on any of the FREE BMD sites, not at all, and all I asked for 'could you tel me if the brides father was JOSHUA, plain and simple, nothing more nothing less. eVEN SO, IF i knew the grooms name, what difference would that make? Its the only time ive not been given any help. EDDIE |

Hi Ted I am told you are an expert on all things LUNT :) Don't know re: your message but am jumping in to ask a question. I am trying to find out about my relative Hannah LUNT from West Derby who became headmistress of a girls school in Liverpool. She was born in the 1880s and it may have been around the 1920s. She was unmarried at the time of her death in the 1960s and living with one of her married sisters in Plymouth. Any ideas about how I can find more? I did find an old Liverpool memories website/message board where a lady had mentioned her but it seems to have been closed down. Keen to find out more about my LUNTS many thanks! |

Ted, if the marriage was between 1866 and 1911, Family Relatives can give you the other name!! If you don't subscribe to that site, tell me the name, district, year and Q for your bride and I'll have a look for you! Merry |
