Now you see why I wish Phoenix was for hire.

LOL I got now you've spelt it out!!! Yes I think it might be time for bed..........mind you I'd make that mistake after a good night sleep too.

Glad I'm not the only one to fooled. If I say my original contact was called Ian, do the mists clear slightly?

I'm afraid Yeslan has escaped me too!

Still not really any wiser. Either it's time for me to go to bed or, more likely, the brain has irretrievably atrophied. Shall not parade my ignorance further. Night night. Tina

Ruin a joke by spelling it out, Tina? Well, I'll say that Offred was so called because she belonged to Fred: of Fred. (And Chaucer? London kids can't cope with anything so hard. We got 10 Twentieth Century Poets)

Oh come on Phoenix - some of us are not as well read as you, got thoroughly fed up with Chaucer at the age of 15, and now restrict our bed-time reading to who-dunnits. Put us out of our misery - explain yourself. Tina

Idly looking at my tree matches, I plugged in a surname and a place..... And discovered that someone called Yeslan was interested in my great great granny. I checked her husband, but Yeslan wasn't interested in him. She had two illegitimate children, so I checked their names as well. No joy. I went back and did a search on gg granny's name and Yeslan had disappeared. This was getting bizarre. There was only one other person researching gg granny and I'd already contacted him. So I did my original search again.... And the penny dropped. (Was I the only person not to realise the significance of Offred's name in the Handmaid's Tale?)
