Helen Thank you for the advise, i have had a look but am still at a loss as to what to do or should i say look. I don't know for sure that a will has been left but there could be a good chance as the family were puplicans. I was hoping to find a list of names and years on it and then just order from there, that sounds to easy dosent it. Diane.

You need to contact the probate registry at York. It will cost you £5.00 for the search and a copy of the will. Money well spent, I have had fantastic information from wills. There is no place online that you can look to see if there is a will after 1854 or whatever. Ian

You can also search the National Probate Calendar on microfiche or in volumes at various record offices and probate offices. The microfiches go up to 1943 but some places have bound volumes after that. Kate.
