Could someone look at the 1901 Census for me RG13/1280 Folio 64 Page 35 Household 61. I am trying to work out the occupations of the Burton Family. Alfred Burton Photographic ???man. His daughter Louisa ?something domestic. I can see his son Charlie is a photographic assistant. Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Hi - just had a look and I am sure it says - taxidermist!! I know it doesn't make any sense but that's what it looks like to me. Louisa is a housemaid. Victoria

Well I must say that's different! A photographic taxidermist. Maybe taking photo's to show how good the taxidermist is! What a weird occupation. The other brother is a wood turner of billiard tables and I thought that was different. Since the father is/was a groom. Cheers for looking Thanks Julie

This is an odd occupation and nothing came up when I googled. I did wonder if the beginning of taxidermist was actually fix- something, ie someone involved in the processing of photographs? nell

Maybe he would be listed in a trades directory, or perhaps you can find a bmd cert around that time to confirm/clarify. nell

Thanks for other replys sorry on Aussie time didn't get back. I think he might of tried to make himself sound good. But I will order birth cert's for the kids when I have the money to see what it say's. Thanks

Hi Julie, I read it as Photographer taxidermist Worker on own account, at home. Should the word 'and' be in the middle? He seems to have had two jobs. His 14 year old son is a photographer assistant. Vera
