This is another one who is driving me loopy. There are so many Thomas Taylors born in Clapham and area all around the same time.

Witnesses John William Jones and Eliza Ann Eales. Eliza Eales is his married sister. Dont know John Jones. 1861, now married with wife Ann Upton Ann Taylor abt 1831 Devon, England Wife Newington St Mary Surrey Emma Taylor abt 1861 London, England Daughter Newington St Mary Surrey Thomas Taylor abt 1835 Surrey, England Head Newington St Mary Surrey Thomas Taylor abt 1858 London, England Son Newington St Mary Surrey 1871 census: Ann Taylor 40 Tiviton, Devon, England Wife St Mary Newington London Emma A Taylor 12 Kingsland Daughter St Mary Newington London Hy Taylor 8 Walworth Son St Mary Newington London Kate Taylor 4 Walworth Daughter St Mary Newington London Maria Taylor 9 Walworth Daughter St Mary Newington London Thos Taylor 35 Clapham Head St Mary Newington London Thos S Taylor 13 Son St Mary Newington, London Father shown as 'commercial Traveller'. Address 166 Date Street, Walworth, St Mary Newington And so it goes on til his death. So, I know I have right man going back to his father, the licensed victualler in Wimbledon. BUT where is he in 1851? Ive seen lots of Thomas Taylors but none match up father wise. One in yorkshire right age, pob but in later census with a different father and family.

Flippin' all licenced victuallers.....probably too p****d to fill in the form properly......''How many kids do we have now, my dear??''........''Oh, that should be enough listed''.........''time for another glass of porter?'' Merry

But he was living in a pub, Jess (posh one too), Ive googled and contacted Youngs who own it now - it was the place for the beautiful people of London at that time - I am trying to screw a freebie out of Youngs in exchange for his will! Seeing as you put all the hard work in on translating it Merry, I will push for two rooms, eh? I keep worrying Ive got wrong family but it all ties up, even to Ann the wife residing in Wimbledon when they married. Their daughter Maria is my GGM. Funnily enough Merry, Maria was a real p*** artiste by all accounts (hardly surprising with about 3 generations at least of licensed victuallers - even her great granny down in Devon was one!) My nan blamed her for her for my GGF bankruptcy. Ann the wife of Thomas Stephen took over the inn when he died.

Thanks Gizmo, saw it but two kids there that dont match with my lot and also the grandparents dont have his mums name (Gamage). As I said, this is the problem, seems like they were cloning Thomas Taylors in that area in c1835.

In theory he should if anywhere be working at a pub? Learning the trade if he is a Licensed Victualler by the age of 22.

Unfortunately they just have the initials usually. But possible I guess. Thanks for trying. Time for a drink and bed I think.
