Hi there, me again. NO he is not on the 1891 census. So does that mean he was born after March 1891? I am so confused as I am not when the census would have been taken. I am also not sure why there could be such a difference in the age and possible date of birth for the man.....Thanks again.....Lauren |

Thanks again Nell. I shall try the 1891 census right now. As you can see from the few details I have for him, I end up with a date margin for when he could have been born. I am determined to track him down though. Thanks again I shall post a message if I can find him on the 1891 census....Lauren |

Lauren The beta list is this one on ancestry England & Wales, BMD Index (Beta) It's the GRO images, just like on 1837online EXCEPT THAT IT IS FREE! But if you've checked the GRO index already, you won't find anything different. nell |

1901 age 9 = birth year 1891/2 - depending on whether or not he'd had his birthday before census night) 1913 marriage cert says 22 = birth year 1890/91, depending on whether or not he'd had his birthday before his marriage. 1916 death age 26 = birth year 1889/90 depending on whether he'd had his birthday before his death. Have you tried seeing if you can find him on 1891 census? If not him, finding his parents to see if they were married or not? If he's not there, he's born after census night 1890. nell |

Lauren Freebmd is not complete and the Ancestry civil reg site is the same info as Freebmd. Have you checked the GRO images, which are available free on Ancestry - you need to click on the beta list. nell |

I am quite new to this and have managed to hit a very large brick wall already. I am trying to locate a birth certificate for my great uncle but cannot find any record of his birth. All I know is the following: Name John William JOYCE Born West Ham, London Now, this is where I have the problem. 1901 Census states he is 9 years old Marriage certificate from Dec.1913 states he is 22 Death certificate from Sept.1916 states he is 26 I have looked though the records for 1889-1893 and have even checked under his mothers maiden name as I thought that maybe he was born out of wedlock. Still, no luck If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I have checked the ancestry(.)co(.)uk and the Freebmd site but have found no child matching this name. Thank you Lauren |
